Tallahassee Youth Triathlon Series

Encouraging healthy living, staying active, and friendly competition!

Why Tri?  Our series introduces area children and their parents to the world of multisport, through races that are fun and easy to accomplish. With helpful practice clinics and tons of support throughout the race course, we help participants safely and responsibly reach the finish line.  Children must be able to swim one length of the pool on their own to participate, but kickboards are welcome during the race, as are training wheels for our youngest participants.

More than a Decade Strong:  The 2019 series marks 18 years of kids’ triathlon opportunities in Tallahassee. The past nine seasons of local races have been directed by a pair of All-American triathletes, Mike Weyant and Stephanie Liles-Weyant, who are excited to be back coordinating the race again this year!

Nuts & Bolts: Geared to ages five through 15, we aim to host between 100-200 participants at each of our events. Every race brings a round of new families, as well as a number of repeat participants who love the encouragement they receive from our volunteers and community supporters. Races begin in the swimming pool at the FSU Morcom Aquatics Center, a world-class facility with grounds that offer a safe, secure course for participants of all ability levels. Athletes compete in age division waves, and are issued a timing chip to record their time.

Friendly Competition: We reward top-finishing participants with trophies and prizes from event partners. One race in our annual series, usually the midsummer event, is the USA Triathlon Splash & Dash Youth Aquathlon. This non-competitive event gives kids an opportunity to experience another aspect of multisport. Without a bike leg, the two-sport race focuses heavily on participation and completion.

Who Benefits?  Our young participants are the main beneficiaries, as they walk away from each race with a huge sense of accomplishment.
